Presented by Jacob Schepis & Lyndon Purcell of JPS Health & Fitness.
  • Day 1 Wednesday 10/07/19 (6pm-9pm) – Nutrition Strategies To Optimise Muscle Growth
  • Day 2 Thursday 11/07/19 (6pm-9pm) – Program Design & Execution For Maximal Hypertrophy

Jacob Schepis is the Director of one of Australia’s leading personal training facilities and education providers, JPS Health and Fitness. Jacob is a national level bodybuilder & powerlifter with over 10 years of in the trenches experience coaching athletes at elite levels in both disciplines. With a keen interest in science, he aims to bridge the gap between the realms of sports and nutritional sciences and the real world by teaching coaches and athletes how to apply the best available research through a pragmatic lens when planning, designing and executing training and diet interventions. His mission is simple – produce consistent, reliable and impressive results, and his coaching systems aim to provide coaches and athletes the tools and knowledge necessary to implement strategies that yield sustainable but optimal outcomes.

Lyndon Purcell is the Coach & Education Manager at JPS Health and Fitness; he also has a Bachelors of Exercise & Sport Science and is currently completing his Masters of High Performance Sport at the University of Canberra. Lyndon’s role at JPS involves staying up to date with the relevant scientific literature and working closely with all the other JPS coaches, helping them to develop methods for practically implementing the latest research findings in a safe and effective manner. When he is not assisting the JPS coaches, Lyndon also coaches a variety of athletes and general population clients, as well as creates and presents educational content for other coaches and fitness-enthusiasts within the industry. Lyndon’s ambition is to raise the standard of personal training globally, and he believes this will be best achieved through a combination of theoretical and practical insights as well as an ability to think both critical and creatively.

DAY 1 –

Physiology of Muscle Growth & Dietary Implications (90 minutes) – By Lyndon Purcell

This presentation will cover the fundamental aspects of muscle growth and how they can be augmented from a nutritional perspective. By understanding the underlying physiology that allows muscle cells to function, as well as the stimuli and signals they respond to, we are better informed on knowing how to induce the desired adaptation. When we have an understanding of the stimuli and signals we are utilizing, we can direct our attention to nutrition and ensure that we are maximizing its role in how effective our entire intervention is.

Strategic Nutrition for Muscle Growth (90 minutes) – By Jacob Schepis

This presentation will cover diet periodization strategies to enhance muscle growth. Whilst traditional nutrition practices incorporate distinct phases of ‘bulking’ and ‘cutting’, they have often left many athletes spinning their wheels and for reasons explained in this seminar, may not be an optimal approach for physique athletes. In this lecture, you will learn why such binary nutrition strategies are undesirable for long term body composition development, as well as how to strategically plan, design and implement nutrition protocols that optimizes muscle growth both in the short and long term.

DAY 2 –

Program Design for Muscle Hypertrophy – The Training Principles (90 minutes) – By Lyndon Purcell

This presentation will provide the foundation for hypertrophy program training design. The training principles are the guiding concepts that must be satisfied by all well-constructed programs, no matter how varied differing methodologies may be. The training principles are the first step in the process of taking a theoretical understanding of muscle physiology and bringing about practical, real world results. This lecture will start with a recap on the processes by which muscle tissue is grown, and then move into a discussion on how we can conceptually design a program to stimulate maximal muscle growth, while avoiding negative outcomes and trade-offs a long the way.

Program Design for Muscle Growth – The Acute Training Variables (90 minutes) – By Jacob Schepis

In this presentation you will learn how the principles of hypertrophy training and muscle growth physiology apply to program design. This lecture will outline a step-wise and systematic process for incorporating the acute training variables such as volume, frequency, intensity, exercise selection and lifting execution into a hypertrophy routine and teach participants how to assess, refine and progress the training stimulus for continual muscle gain. Additional to this presentation are important considerations for long term muscle gain such as time-efficient overload strategies, joint preservation and the implications of energy balance during cutting/massing phases on program design.
