20 Jan Satay
This dish is common to find at hawker food centers throughout Singapore. It’s originally from Indonesia with influence from India and the Middle East, satay (or sate) is very popular throughout Southeast Asia. Satay is served with a sweet and mildly spicy peanut sauce, along with cucumbers and onions, and sometimes rice cakes.
It can be made by any type of meat, most typically used in Singapore hawker stores are chicken, beef, or mutton. The meat is marinated in a mixture of spices and lemongrass, skewered, then grilled over charcoal, served with sweet peanut sauce and some fresh cucumber and shallot.
